2025 Half-year rEView
Taking a look at the growth and changes in the UK Electric vehicle (EV) market so far, halfway through 2025.
What's changed for EVs in 2025?
It's time for the 2025 half-year rEView, Osprey-style.
Three key points to have at your fingertips:
- 32 BEV models priced under £30k available in the UK
- 59% increase in second-hand BEV sales in Q1 vs Q1 2024
- 103kW average mean charging speed of 2025 cars (more on this below)
More second-hand EVs and DC charging than ever
British drivers are spoilt for new choice, second-hand choice and charging stations that meet their rapid-charging needs.

We first commented on mean charging speeds - i.e. not the peak power the car can pull but the average it actually pulls during real world charging - in 2023. Average mean charging speed of new vehicles has increased only 7kW in four years:
- 2022 - 96kW
- 2023 - 99kW
- 2024 - 100kW
- 2025 - 103kW
Suggesting that the continued roll out of 150-300kW ultra-rapid charge points at Osprey hubs more than covers the charging capabilities of vehicles today and into the future. The majority of cars will not experience substantial time savings from chargers of any higher power.
