London, 13th December: Osprey Charging, one of the UK’s largest and leading rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging networks, and Starbucks UK today announce the first of new rapid charging locations they are working together to develop for Starbucks customers.

A facility providing three rapid charge points is now open for customers alongside a new Starbucks drive-through on Intown Road, Aberdeen, improving the EV charging infrastructure in the city and supporting local decarbonisation efforts while at the same time offering customers the iconic Starbucks experience. The Starbucks-owned site is the first of several in the UK intended for rapid charge points with Osprey, improving the convenience of public EV charging.

The 75kW charge points are compatible with every EV on the market today and typically add 100 miles of range in around 30 minutes, making them the ideal choice for charging up whilst recharging your own batteries with your favourite Starbucks beverages and food.

Furthermore, the chargers are easy to use and designed with simple payment for all drivers, accepting contactless bank cards, Apple/Google Pay, the Osprey App and RFID card payments, as well as payments through all major third-party payment methods including fleet cards.

Access to charging remains one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption. By locating reliable charging stations at Starbucks stores and drive-thru locations, which hundreds of thousands of customers will visit each year, Osprey are boosting consumer confidence in choosing electric.

We are committed to providing our customers with the opportunity to make more sustainable choices. The opening of the EV charging point at Aberdeen is a great example of this and is the first of several such projects we have planned. The ability to charge easily and conveniently is critical in making electric vehicles a reality and we are pleased to be able offer customers the opportunity to do so while enjoying the iconic Starbucks experience.

Jacqui Wetherly, Director of Sustainability at Starbucks UK

We’re thrilled to be working with Starbucks UK to bring reliable, rapid EV charging facilities to their customers. This new location in Aberdeen improves access to public EV charging in the east of Scotland, supporting the drive to decarbonise transport in the UK.

Andrew Nosworthy, Commercial Director at Osprey Charging

The next Starbucks location to benefit from Osprey EV charging is expected to be at the St Johns Retail Park in Bedford, Bedfordshire.

Osprey charging locations are consistently scored highly for safety and accessibility by independent inspection body ChargeSafe, and the network was once again rated in the UK Top 3 for customer satisfaction in 2023 by the annual Zapmap EV Driver Survey.
