North Lanarkshire residents, businesses, commuters and visitors’ EV charging access improved this week with the opening of a hub with sixteen new public charge points conveniently located at Lidl Bellshill. The new charging hub forms part of Osprey Charging’s continued investment in EV charging across Greater Glasgow and the west of Scotland, with 36 chargers installed in the past six months alone.
Osprey Charging is a leading UK-wide rapid and ultra-rapid charging network. Chargers typically add 100 miles of range in just 15-20 minutes, depending on the model of the vehicle and its battery level. Accepting simple contactless payment via card or Apple/Google Pay, with no need to download an app, the up to 300kW charge points are also compatible with every EV on the market today.
Lidl Bellshill was chosen for its excellent location on the A725, M74 and M8, serving both local drivers and commuters travelling across central Scotland. Drivers can conveniently charge while shopping at Lidl, with the site designed as a high-capacity retail charging destination.
The charge points are designed to be easy to use and park at, and have a 24/7 free helpline assisting customers whenever they need it. For business or fleet drivers, receipts can be obtained via the Osprey App and the chargers accept all major third-party payment methods including fleet cards. Osprey’s in-house software platform, Osprey Iris, enables market-leading levels of reliability and innovation in EV roaming. As a result, Osprey is a multi-award-winning network and a Zap-Map ‘Driver Recommended Network’ for the sixth consecutive year.
Osprey continues to invest heavily in EV charging infrastructure across Greater Glasgow and the west of Scotland. Alongside the new Bellshill hub, the network has recently opened major ultra-rapid charging locations at Gallagher Retail Park in Port Glasgow and The Forge retail destination on Duke Street in Glasgow. The company also operates three charging hubs in Wishaw and Hamilton, alongside a further twelve locations across the wider Glasgow region, with another major hub still to come at Crown Street in Glasgow. This continued private investment, totalling 92 charge points to date, is actively supporting Scotland’s transition to electric vehicles, and was complemented earlier in the year by a Scottish focused marketing campaign to build brand awareness amongst EV drivers and intenders.
“
“Scotland is seeing growth in EV adoption and reliable rapid charging infrastructure is critical to supporting that transition. We are continuing to expand our network across Glasgow and beyond, with Bellshill representing another major investment in convenient, ultra-rapid charging for local communities and drivers across the entire region.”
Ian Johnston, CEO of Osprey Charging
As EV uptake increases across the country ahead of the 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles, more and more of Glasgow’s residents and visitors will look for EV charging as standard. As such, this new installation will encourage EV uptake in the area as well as improving local air quality, reducing noise pollution and supporting local decarbonisation efforts.
Osprey funds the installation and oversees the operation and maintenance of the charge points, all of which are powered by renewable energy. Lidl also benefits from a future-proofed car park and being able to attract more EV drivers as customers.
